The advantages of a sinus lift
- If bone loss occurs in the upper jaw, the spaces near the sinuses can come too close together, which can affect the facial structure and make dental implant procedures more difficult. During a sinus lift procedure, we raise the sinuses upwards and use bone material to strengthen the upper jaw so that it can accommodate new teeth. As a result, sinus lift procedures and bone replacement surgery:

Do you need a sinus lift procedure?
We recommend sinus lift surgery and bone grafting in the following cases:
- a fractured jaw
- bone structure damaged by gum disease
- bone recession after the loss of several teeth
- a cyst or tumour removed from the area
- large sinuses or a thin jawbone
How are the sinus lift and bone grafting carried out at Ilyés Dental?
Before the procedure, we take an X-ray to determine which part of the jaw requires bone grafting. At this stage, we also establish where bone tissue can be harvested from and which cavity can be lifted.
- The operation is performed under anaesthesia.
- During a sinus lift operation, we cut the gum tissue and expose the bone. We lift the sinus membrane through a small incision.
- The bone replacement material is placed into the cavity. The gum is then closed again. A sinus lift operation takes 1-2 hours, depending on the condition of the bone.
- After the procedure, you may feel some discomfort or pain. We recommend following the treatment plan prescribed by your doctor: take the antibiotics and painkillers, and use a saline solution to keep your nasal cavity moist.
Not recommended after the procedure:
Dental implant surgery can be scheduled at least 6 months after the sinus lift. During this time, the bone will regenerate and become strong enough to support the implants.
- Please do not blow your nose or sneeze, as the force can damage the sutures and displace the bone graft material.
- We make an incision in the gum to expose the tooth and bone.
- It is not advisable to travel by plane, go diving or take part in any activity that may put pressure on your sinuses. These activities can damage the bone graft.
- We schedule a follow-up consultation 7-10 days after the procedure. We remove the stitches and examine the bone structure.
